The heartbreaking sequence draws the regal epic to a close as its final chapter lands on the streaming platform today.

The poignant episode — described by director Stephen Daldry as “fascinating and deeply moving” — is released on the streaming platform today.

Director Stephen Daldry said: “The questions that are challenging the Queen in episode 10 are absolutely fascinating, and deeply moving having come from the moment in history where the Queen has just died.

“The Queen actually planning her own funeral, thinking about her own death.

“Thinking about what she had lost to be the Queen she was, what she’d had to give up.

"I thought it was fascinating.

“I hope people will come back to the show and look at this period of time and place, where we told a story of the Royal Family, but it is also a story of post war Britain, right up to just after the Millennium.”
