I’m A Celeb winner Sam Thompson’s girlfriend Zara reveals ‘real reason’ he was crowned king of the jungle

SAM Thompson's girlfriend Zara McDermott has revealed the 'real reason' he managed to earn the crown of King of the Jungle.

The reality star turned radio DJ won over the hearts of ITV viewers in order to be crowned the latest winner of I'm A Celebrity.

His girlfriend, Strictly Come Dancing star Zara, has been cheering him on from home and has also opened up on the 'secret weapon' that allowed him to go all the way to the final.

The former Love Island star sat down with TikTok star GK Barry on the latest episode of her highly successful podcast series, Saving Grace, to discuss how Sam had been fairing Down Under.

Many stars of the jungle show are known to struggle with the tough conditions and in particular the lack of food.

However, Zara told GK Barry that she would not expect them to be a problem for Sam.

Explaining that he was unlikely to get "hangry" or moody due to the lack of food, she suggested that this quality could take him all the way to the final - something which went on to become true.

Zara said: "He doesn't get hangry, He's not like a proper foodie.

"I think he'll be alright.

 "I said to him before he went in that he might struggle with rice and beans, but he was like, 'I think I will be alright'."

She also went on to dish how Sam can cope well with being bored and was unlikely to find annoyance in not having anything to do.

Zara said on the show: "He actually copes quite well with being bored. He is really good at chilling out and switching himself off."

Sam was left over the moon on Sunday evening when Ant and Dec crowned him the 23rd winner of the hit series.

He beat boxer Tony Bellew and politician Nigel Farage in the nail-biting final.

The star was left overwhelmed upon hearing the result after admitting it had been a long-term dream of his to be a contestant on the show.

Sam said after the crowing moment: "Oh my God. I’m really overwhelmed.

"I didn’t think I was even going to be invited on the show. I don’t know what to say.

"Oh my God. I’m so grateful, thank you so much. I’ve dreamt of doing this show for years and years.

"You’ve made a boy’s dream come true. Thank you."
