A SHETLAND star has spoken out about the future of the BBC show after fans 'boycotted' the series after a 'dire' finale.
it comes after viewers claimed they were left bitterly disappointed by the show after the last episode, leading some to “give up” on the new series.
The criticism also comes as Douglas Henshall’s DI Jimmy Perez left the series last season.
He has now been replaced by Ashley Jensen’s DI Ruth Calder.
The final episode left viewers with more questions than answers.
Many took to X, formerly Twitter, to blast the BBC series for its predictable plot.

Breaking her silence, Ashley Jensen who plays DI Ruth Calderhas has addressed the future of the BBC show amidst the negative backlash from fans.
During her appearance on ITV's Lorraine, the actress was questioned about the future of the BBC drama as she promoted its finale.
Host, Lorraine said: "For goodness sake, it's been hugely successful. You've got viewing figures in excess of seven million...
"There's got to be more [Shetland], Ashley. Surely it would be crazy not to be?"

Ashley responded: "Fingers crossed."
Lorraine then pushed for more, highlighting the exciting possibilities with Ruth's character.
"There's so much to explore, especially with Ruth," The Welsh presenter said.
Ashley agreed and said: "Yeah."
The actress then went on to speak about how "fortunate" she was to have this role.
