Hit BBC drama returning to screens for new series in a matter of days – but with a major change
The show won one of the highest TV accolades following its launch in 2022
POPULAR BBC drama The Tourist will be back for a second series VERY soon but will feature a huge switch-up.
Fronted by acclaimed actor Jamie Dornan, the show is returning in a matter of days with a New Year’s Day premiere lined up on BBC One.
The show originally launched in January 2022 and saw Jamie play Elliot Stanley.
Danielle Macdonald accompanied the star in the role of Helen Chambers and she will be back for the programme’s second outing that sees them in all new surroundings.
Fans will remeber the show for being set in Australia with scenes for the hit thriller being filmed in and around regional towns in the south of the country.
However, this time around, Irish native Elliot will find himself back home in Ireland.
In the first series, having awoke in an Australian hospital, Elliot was suffering from amnesia and was forced to use a small amount of crumbs to try and figure out just exactly who he was and his true identity.
The brand new series will follow him back on home turf as he seeks to find even more truth surrounding his existance.
The BBC have teased that Elliot and Helen will run into friends and foe on their trip with a longstanding family feud being uncovered across the six-parter.
Viewers will be left over the moon at its return after it spawned big ratings and critical acclaim during its first run.
11.4 million viewers tuned into series one with The Tourists gaining the title of the most-watched new drama of 2022.
It found international success as well becoming a hit Down Under where it was set as well as being sold across five continents.
The show also won the highest accolade at the Monte Carlo Television Festival for Best Series cementing its success and vast popularity.
