BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent gave her co-star Jon Kay a good telling-off after he left a guest red-faced and embarrassed.
The presenters discussed King Charles' upcoming 75th birthday, which falls on November 14, when the awkward TV moment happened.
On Monday morning’s BBC Breakfast show hosted by Sally and Jon, a guest was left speechless after Jon asked her what she was getting The King for his birthday.
Sally clashed with Jon and told him to leave the woman alone after he grilled her and left her guest red-faced.
Before the blunder, the pair explained how local honourees would join the King for an enjoyable afternoon tea party accompanied by a rock choir at his private residence in Highgrove, Gloucestershire.
One of the guests invited to the party is Marie Curie nurse Ann Brady, who turns 75 herself in December.
Ann started her nursing career in 1968 and decided to become a palliative care nurse at 50.
She told Jon and Sally through a video link: "I'd go into people's homes and look after them at night time.
“Also supporting families and ensuring that they have a rest and can care for their loved ones in the day time."
Jon then asked: "Have you taken a present?"
A bit taken aback by Jon's question, a sheepish Ann responded: "Gosh, no, I haven't."
She added: "Just myself."
Jon replied jokingly: "Ann!"
Seeing the look on Ann’s face, Sally quickly interjected: "Leave her alone!”
Jon then quizzed: "What do you give the King as a birthday present?"
Ann then asked: "Will I be dismissed?"
"I did read that he's a difficult person to buy gifts for.”
The trio laughed at the moment as the two presenters concluded the segment, thanked Ann for coming on and moved on.
On the evening of King Charles's birthday, his loved ones will gather at Clarence House for a birthday dinner in his honour.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
