Ruth Jones is worlds away from Gavin and Stacey as she bags new show – and it’s just months away
RUTH Jones is set to swap the screen for the stage as she takes on a West End musical in March.
The Gavin and Stacey star is known for her role as best friend Nessa Jenkins in the beloved sitcom.
Her new character couldn’t be further from the randy goth she is used to playing, as Ruth is set to don a habit in Sister Act: The Musical.
The actress will be playing Mother Superior at the Dominion Theatre when the show kicks off in spring.
An excited Ruth shared: “I’m proper chuffed to be making my West End debut in Sister Act next March playing the legendary Mother Superior at the Dominion Theatre.
“It’s a crackin’ role and a crackin’ show. Who knew wearing a habit could feel so fabulous! I can’t wait!”
Other A-listers starring in the new play include Olivier Award winner Beverley Knight and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.
The musical is based on the comedy film Sister Act, which follows a nightclub singer as she is put in a convent for witness protection.
Deloris has frequent run-ins with Mother Superior over her licentious behaviour, but also finds her place among the nuns by jazzing up the church choir with her musical talent.
