James revealed this summer that he had an operation in 2018 to remove facial cancer.

And speaking this week to the audience at one of his band's live gigs, he is said to have revealed he is taking a "little bit of a break".

According to , James told the crowd at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall: "On a personal note, I just wanted to say thank you for 30 years of television.

"For me personally, I've been through a lot of s*** with cancer but I'm getting sorted at the end of next month.

"I will be back fighting at the end of February but I'm going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted."

James, who is currently on tour with The James Martin Band, added: "I just wanted to say thank you for all your support and all your messages."

In July, the This Morning resident chef revealed his cancer battle after finding himself at the centre of shock bullying claims.

Apologising, James admitted that the end of 2017 was "one of the most fraught and difficult periods of my life".

James said he underwent surgery for cancer on his face in 2018, before it returned on "several occasions".

He also revealed how he was burgled by a masked gang and his grandfather tragically passed away in the same period.

It came after James was heard swearing 42 times in leaked audio as his anger boiled over after a drain was blocked at his home during filming for Saturday Morning.

Referencing his cancer diagnosis, James explained: "[On top of this] I was then diagnosed with cancer on my face and I had to have surgery, which I couldn't do until two days before Christmas when we had finished filming.

"Since then it has returned on several occasions and I have to have regular treatments."

At the end of October, James confirmed that his Saturday Morning show had been renewed by ITV.

It was hanging in the balance following the leaked audio clip.

Again, speaking at a live event, reported that James told his audience: "I want to thank everyone for their support.

"It's been a difficult time and I've not been well.

"So, ITV has decided to renew the Saturday show for another year. We've just found out."
