Emmerdale fans break down in tears as ‘terrified’ Eric Pollard reveals life-changing news in moving scenes
EMMERDALE fans have broken down in tears as 'terrified' Eric Pollard revealed life-changing news in moving scenes.
The character - played by Chris Chittell - has been a fundamental part of the ITV soap for decades and Chris is now the show's longest serving cast member.
Eric has faced a number of health battles over the years, including a heart attack and on-going related problems.
But in tonight's episode, a sobbing Eric ended up confiding in Mandy Dingle that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's, the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.
Eric explained how he had suffered with numbness in his fingers and toes for a little while, and felt unsteady on his feet.
While at the doctors for a heart check up, he mentioned his symptoms and he received the devastating diagnosis.

But he told Mandy: "Brenda doesn't know, she mustn't know. Waiting for when her life ends because she's stuck caring for the likes of me."
After swearing her to secrecy, an emotional Mandy asked if he was scared and he replied: "Mandy, I'm terrified. This is it, the slow decline. I've dodged all the bullets, this one has finally got me.
"This is our secret. Do this my way, promise me."
Emmerdale has worked closely with the charity Parkinson’s UK, who will continue to support the production team to give Eric’s story a realistic and authentic depiction, whilst creating awareness of the condition and how it affects those afflicted.

Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, said: "When Eric Pollard is diagnosed with Parkinson's he's naturally very scared and unsure of what the condition means for his future.
"The unique position of a show like Emmerdale means we can tell this story really authentically over a long period of time and we can really shine a light on what a diagnosis like this means and follow Pollard on his journey of learning to live with it.
"Working closely with Parkinson's UK, who have been guiding us through every step of the way, we hope seeing Pollard's story helps to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and show the day to day reality of those living with it, as well as the impact it can have on friends, family and the local community.”
Chris added: "I feel really privileged to be given this storyline. Parkinson’s is indiscriminate, deceptive and wickedly unkind targeting so many.
"I want to do this storyline justice for the most courageous of people who are having to bear the brunt of this condition.”
Emmerdale fans were left in tears at the emotional scenes tonight, with one writing on social media: "They've gone and given Eric Parkinsons."
Another added: "The scenes between Chris Chittell & Lisa Riley are so sad."
A third tweeted: "Think the scenes between poor Eric and Mandy have been the best ones so far."
