Rising TV star reveals he’s in line for Philip Schofield’s This Morning job
JOEL Dommett reckons he’s primed to take Phillip Schofield’s spot on This Morning — because he knows how to “not be an a***hole”.
The Masked Singer host impressed during a brief stint on the show this summer and now he is keen to join full-time.
Bosses are keen to add to their current roster to replace scandal-hit Schofield and Joel, 38, told The Sun: “It was genuinely fun. I enjoy, as a comic, approaching scenarios where you’re going from what would be seen as a funny segment to shifting to a quite serious mode.
“I relished that challenge. I just need to keep working hard and not be an arsehole.”
Schofield quit the ITV daytime show in May after admitting to an affair with a younger aide.
Claims of a “toxic” on-set culture followed and ITV top dogs, including boss Carolyn McCall, were grilled by a parliamentary committee.

Since then, Joel, Steve Jones and Craig Doyle, who are among those in ITV’s stable of talent, have done a shift alongside regulars including Dermot O’Leary, Ben Shephard, Marvin Humes and Rylan Clark.
New dad Joel said: “Genuinely it’s a brilliant show and now I’ve had (baby) Wilde, I’m watching more morning television than ever.
“It was amazing to learn from Holly, she’s been doing it a long time. I have no idea what I’m doing tomorrow, so who knows?”
Joel has become one of ITV’s busiest hosts since he hit the mainstream on I’m A Celebrity in 2016, and tonight he launches his reboot of Survivor on BBC One at 8.25pm.

He filmed the extreme challenge show in the Dominican Republic this summer after beating Holly to the role as host.
Should he nab the This Morning top spot, however, he would not be sat alongside her after she quit to focus on her family.
Abbey Clancy and Channel 5 host Storm Huntley have been touted as replacements.
ITV says all new names are “speculation”. They are “comfortable” with the current crop.
Dermot O'Leary: 3/1
THE former T4 presenter on Channel 4 has been a permanent face on Friday’s show since 2021.
He’s seen most regularly alongside co-host Alison Hammond, but has proven a safe pair of hands during this summer’s drama on the show.
Dermot, 50, is a favourite to go full time on the sofa thanks to his combo with Alison.
Craig Doyle: 6/1
THE Irish presenter’s career began back in 1995 hosting Disney Club on ITV.
Craig, 52, has spent much of the past two decades presenting sport on BBC, ITV and BT Sport.
In May 2022 he started appearing on This Morning and has formed a double act with Josie Gibson and is well tipped to remain full time.
Steve Jones: 8/1
THE Welshman was a surprise addition to This Morning’s summer rota — but quickly became a firm favourite with viewers.
Steve, 46, has spent the last seven years presenting Channel 4’s coverage of Formula One following a shock axe from Simon Cowell’s The X Factor USA.
He first made his name as a host on Channel 4’s T4.
Ben Shephard: 10/1
BEN already has a lot on his plate as lead host on Good Morning Britain — as well presenting quiz Tipping Point and game show Ninja Warrior UK.
But the 48-year-old has long ties with This Morning, having first had shifts on the sofa in 2005.
He has been back again recently on the rolling roster of presenters alongside Allison.
Rylan Clark: 16/1
RYLAN, 35, first found fame on The X Factor before pivoting into presenting.
He has risen to the ranks of presenting Strictly Come Dancing’s spin-off It Takes Two until last year and has been working across various segments on This Morning since 2013.
The opening for This Morning’s big job could come at the perfect time for him.
Marvin Humes: 25/1
AN outsider for the role but Marvin has built up quite the presenting CV since his days singing in JLS after appearing on The X Factor.
He first debuted on This Morning ten years ago with his wife Rochelle Hulme.
