Jill Halfpenny returns to screens fronting gritty new thriller with the writers of Holby City and Peaky Blinders
A HUGE new thriller featuring Jill Halfpenny has recently got the green light from Channel 5.
The former soap star is set to take her theatrics to new heights as she plays a mysterious lodger in new show The Cuckoo.
And Jill will be bringing all of her EastEnders and Corrie flair to the mix as she threatens to break a family apart.
The four part series follows a married couple's struggles as they face some financial problems.
Nick and Jessica, played by Lee Ingleby and Claire Goose, are forced to rent a room in their house out to a stranger when they fall on hard times.
Although at first Sian seems to be the answer to their money troubles, things soon turn sinister as she begins acting inappropriately with their adopted daughter Alice and flirting with Nick.

The show is currently filming in Ireland, and Channel 5 hope to start airing it in 2024.
Suzi McIntosh, who is well known for her work scripting Peaky Blinders, has been newly appointed as Senior Executive Producer of this project.
The delighted pro shared how much she is looking forward to the new show, saying: "I could not be more excited to be gathering such a fantastic and dynamic cast and crew to make this thriller that will keep us on the edge of our seats throughout. Watch this space, we are all in for a treat."

Leading TV actress Jill recently had a central role in another Channel 5 drama, The Holiday.
She played policewoman Kate, who went on a trip to Malta with her family and uni friends.
However, the holiday went terribly wrong when one of the women turned up dead at the bottom of a cliff - and Kate had to race against the clock to find out who was responsible.
