Coronation Street star Melanie Hill lands HUGE new role on another soap after quitting cobbles
CORONATION Street star Melanie Hill has landed a new role in rival soap Casualty a year after quitting the cobbles.
The actress, 61, has joined the medical drama as Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan Mackenzie, described as a 'no-nonsense team leader who looks set to ruffle a few feathers'.
Melanie said of her new role: “I am delighted to be joining the cast of Casualty and I can’t wait for fans to meet Siobhan.
"She’s a supremely competent manager, who is firm but fair and expects nothing but the best from her nursing team.
"However, get on the wrong side of her and she’ll make mincemeat out of you! I’m sure she’s going to ruffle a few feathers in the Emergency Department.”
Jon Sen, Executive Producer of Casualty for BBC Studios, said: “I am so excited to welcome Melanie to the team. I’ve been a huge admirer of her work for years and it’s wonderful to see her here at Holby. We’ve got brilliant stories lined up for Siobhan and can’t wait for the audience to meet her.”

Melanie will be seen on screen in the new year.
The telly veteran joined Coronation Street in 2015 as Roy Cropper's love interest Cathy Matthews.
A lifelong fan of the soap, Melanie described it as a "dream come true".
Her decision to leave followed the coronavirus pandemic.

She told the last year: ""It’s not been an easy thing to decide. My family has been important but the pandemic has made a lot of people think about the future.
“It has changed a lot of things in my head. You’ve just got to see what’s important to you.
“I absolutely love everybody but it’s made me think about my family a lot and what the priorities are in my life.”
There is room for a return down the line though as soap bosses did not kill off Cathy. Instead, she simply drove away for a new life after splitting from Brian Packham.
