It all kicks off in 1981 against a background of social unrest, with a group of young people fighting to make a name for themselves as part of a band.

The youths will dip their toes in the world of music by performing ska, which was very popular in England in the 80s.

The genre is known for having united young people regardless of race or ethnic background.

Steven Knight made sure the show was shot in Birmingham, which was one of the original homes of ska music in the UK.

Famous producer Dan Carey and award nominated musician Kate Tempest are on board as the songwriters behind the music that will be performed by the fictional band in this series.

Mercury Studios, which is tied to the Universal Music Group, has also promised to lend their support by bringing in a range of high profile artists to work on the project.

Major cast members viewers can look out for include Downtown Abbey's Michelle Dockery, Nicholas Pinnock, and David Dawson.

A familiar face from Peaky Blinders will also pop up in This Town, as Irish actor Brendan Gibson is set to appear in the drama.

The six-episode series is going to premiere on  BBC One and BBC iPlayer next year.
