But viewers couldn't help but complain after the show's co-host Alison Hammond made a huge faux pas.

Fans threw their hands over their ears in horror as she repeatedly said "marshmellow", instead of "marshmallow".

Sharing their annoyance on X, formerly known as Twitter, one GBBO viewer posted: "Aaaaargh!! @AlisonHammond please learn to say marshmallow…it’s an A not an E. so marsh maaaallow, not marsh mellow."

Another raged: "It’s MALLOW not mellow."

A third waded in, ranting: "It’s quite impressive how many times someone can say marshmallow wrong! It’s not MELLOW it’s MALLOW."

Some of the bakers tried their hands at teacakes while others made Wagon Wheels for the marshmallow biscuit Signature challenge.

Hopeful Tasha Stones' Australian-inspired marshmallow biscuits were the most impressive, however.

GBBO judge Paul Hollywood was so wowed by them that he even gave her one of his highly coveted handshakes - which are very rare.

One delighted fan posted on X: "Yay! Well done Tasha! First Hollywood handshake of the series."
