Adam had danced a Tango but faced criticism from the judges over his technical skills.

Following the performance, head judge Shirley said: "Character good, footwork soft but mistakes and out-of-sync bits."

While Motsi Mabuse commented: "Acting skills helped sell it, more engaged and powerful but needed stronger technique."

Their feedback left Adam, 35, tearful and he could be seen wiping his eyes.

After joining Claudia Winkleman and his fellow contestants upstairs, Adam said: "I'm not smiling now, I'll be honest with you.

"I tried my hardest and I feel like I let [Luba] down, I'm sorry."

But Luba quickly reassured him and replied: "I loved dancing that with you, I'm so proud."

It comes as Adam posted a snap of his wife and kids on the BBC set with him during rehearsals.
