BBC Breakfast viewers slam Naga Munchetty over ‘cringe’ comment about blind bride
BBC Breakfast viewers have slammed host Naga Munchetty over a 'cringe' comment she made about a blind bride.
It came after Naga and co host Ben Thompson presented a feel-good segment on the BBC show about a blind bride who made her groom and her wedding guests wear blindfolds.
Broadcaster and social media personality Lucy Edwards lost her sight aged 17, so asked them to have their eyes covered so they could spend a moment in her shoes.
But after showing a clip of the big day from social media, Naga made a clunky transition into the weather report.
"Do you know what you would need to top it off? A beautiful sunrise and sunset, you know, to start and finish the day," she said to a bemused Ben.
She then threw to the weather, but fans watching at home were unimpressed by her clumsy choice of words, given a blind bride would not be able to appreciate a sunrise or sunset.

One pointed out on X, formerly twitter: "Ooh! Another cringe moment on #bbcbreakfast as Naga says "what's needed is a beautiful sunset or sunrise" for a blind woman's wedding, where all the guests were asked to wear blindfolds to share her experience."
A second added: "Oh Naga! Sometimes it's best NOT to attempt a tenuous link to the next item. A blind bride, blindfolded guests and you suggest the wedding needs a gorgeous sunset? Oh dear oh dear oh dear…"
And a third agreed, saying: "Yes, Naga, what you want at a wedding where everyone is wearing blindfolds is a beautiful sunset.."
It wasn't the only blunder on this morning's show either.
The morning show accidentally aired an old episode of Newswatch during the show, which featured shamed presenter Huw Edwards.
Ben was forced to apologise for the error, which awkwardly cut away when Huw appeared on screen.
He said: "So you might have noticed, the eagle eyed viewers amongst you, that that was quite an old episode of Newswatch so we will find the right one and make sure we can bring that to you a little later. So apologies, a few technical gremlins at this end."
The blunder didn't go unnoticed by viewers who took to social media.
"Oh god how awkward - cut it off just as Huw came on," one wrote on X.
