Antiques Roadshow guest ‘collapses’ after staggering valuation of box bought for 18p
AN ANTIQUES Roadshow guest 'collapsed' after hearing how much the box she bought for 18p was really worth.
BBC One's resident ceramics expert Will Farmer is known for his theatrics when valuating items on the popular show.
And he has recently spoken about his favourite memory from Antiques Roadshow, when a lady was bowled over by shock when he revealed how much she could sell her cheap plastic box for.
He told the : "One of my favourites that always sticks in my head - this lady came in with a little red plastic box that she had bought from an antique shop for 18p.
"And I turned around to this lady…and I am well known for being a bit of a tease when it comes to delivering the valuation.
"I am very good at playing the crowd, playing the audience. I said, 'Would it surprise you if I told you it was worth £500?'

"And she did a comedy collapse on her feet and she went, 'Oh my god, you're joking?'"
Will prolonged the suspense by admitting that she was right to be suspicious and he was joking about the £500 price tag.
However, the real value was even more shocking.
He added: "I said, 'I am joking, I am sorry' and she went 'Oh I knew it you're awful', I said 'it's not worth £500, it is worth £1,000'.

"And to her at that time, it was a life-changing sum of money and she went on to sell it."
The proud specialist recently opened up about how his mum and gran were the inspiration behind his love of antiques.
The star admitted that he was in the auction houses from a young age, and even purchased his first Clarice Cliff ceramic piece at the tender age of 13.
