CLARKSON’S Farm was the only streamed TV programme that made it into the top 40 most-watched shows of the past year.

The story of Jeremy Clarkson’s attempts to adopt a rural lifestyle has been a huge hit for Prime Video, and its second series has now been watched by a total of 4.6m.

All of the other 39 shows were made by the BBC, ITV or Channel 4 and the list didn’t feature any of the other big streamers including Netflix, Apple TV+ or Disney+.

Ironically, Jeremy’s hit show had equal viewers with the highest-rating episode of BBC1’s Countryfile, and almost equalled an episode of rural soap Emmerdale, which had 4.7m viewers.

It was at 36 in the top 40.

But the show, which is about to go into its third series, still equalled ITV’s Dancing on Ice and beat Gogglebox on Channel 4.

The figure was highlighted as part of new research carried out by Channel 4 looking at how people viewed telly.

It showed that 14 of the top 40 shows watched by young people were all on streaming services - and Clarkson's Farm was the most watched of these too, with 1.6m youngsters viewing it.

Prime Video had already confirmed that the second season of the show, which dropped in February, had broken viewing records for the streamer.

It became the service’s most-watched original series in the UK since the data started being collected, even beating the Lord of the Rings TV series, which cost millions to make.
