Set in the Yorkshire Dales, this heartwarming series is based on the best-selling books by Alf Wight, whose pen name was James Herriot.

All Creatures Great and Small follows the life and work of three veterinary surgeons, James Herriot and brothers Sigfried and Triston Farnon, in the Dales in the late 1930s.

It is a reboot of the popular drama of the same name which aired on the BBC from 1978 to 1990. The original series starred Christopher Timothy, Robert Hardy and Peter Davidson as the beloved Yorkshire vets.

The show sees the vet trio tend to animals of all types and sizes, hence the name All Creatures Great and Small.

In the reboot, Nicholas Ralph takes the lead as veterinary surgeon James. Outside of the show, he’s best known for starring in the films Most Reluctant Convert and Prey for the Devil.

The Durrell’s star Callum Woodhouse joins him as Tristan Farnon, while Samuel West plays their friend and veterinary practice boss Sigfried.

Viewers may recognise Samuel, 57, from films and TV shows such as Mr Selfridge and Notting Hill.

Speaking of his role as Siegfried, he said: “I should say that this is one of the things I’m most proud of.

“Doing such a great part in such an iconic story that means so much to people, not just in Yorkshire, but all over the world," he added.

Rounding out the central cast is Rachel Shenton as Helen Alderson, James’ fiancé, and Anna Madeley as Mrs Audrey Hall, Siegfried’s housekeeper.

The new season will pick up from the series 3 finale which saw James and Helen celebrate the news of their engagement.
