Cathy was officially diagnoses with PMDD this week but was distressed after learning it’s incurable

Gabrielle Dowling recently returned to the Dales as teen Cathy Hope after a few months away with her half-brother Scott Windsor.

Cathay’s dad, Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw), had hoped that some time away would lessen her symptoms – namely her explosive mood swings.

However, upon returning, it became clear nothing had changed as the teen immediately lashes out at Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson).

However, there was a small victory for Cathy this week, as she finally received an official diagnosis of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)

But this does little to console Cathy, who quickly learns that PMDD is incurable. All she can do is manage her symptoms, which, along with her mood swings, include very heavy periods.

Afterward, an upset and volatile Cathy blindsides Bob by defiantly insisting she wants to find a cure to stop her PMDD symptoms, which aren’t getting any better.

The situation culminates in Cathy throwing a garden ornament through a B&B window, just missing Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker), then shoving Wendy to the ground.

But it seems this is just the tip of the iceberg as Cathy’s behaviour continues to spiral in episodes airing next week.

Not wanting to believe her PMDD is incurable, Cathy insists there must be another way.

And she may have found one. In Monday’s episode, Cathy reveals to Amelia Spencer (portrayed by Daisy Campbell) that she has a new plan to cure her symptoms, leaving her friend stunned.

What is she planning and how far will she go to try to cure her PMDD symptoms for good now that her mood swings have almost hurt so many people in her life?

However, after being consumed by her diagnosis, Cathy gets a reprieve as her attention is also caught by something else – or someone else – later in the week.

In Tuesday’s episode, it appears she’s caught Samson Dingle’s eye as he reciprocates her flirty banter. And on Wednesday, Cathy is thrilled to confirm a date with him.
