Filming of the dramatic scenes has just taken place and is said to look “incredible”.

But the disaster will have massive consequences for some of the soap’s favourite characters - as the attack appears to be deliberate.

An insider said: “Bosses are staying tight-lipped about who’s behind the attack and who is left fighting for their lives, but viewers can expect lots of drama as the storyline unfolds on-screen and the residents of Walford deal with the fallout of the event.

“These scenes have just been shot and they look incredible.

“They are part of the explosive autumn the show has lined up.”

Fans are already captivated by the Christmas whodunnit which is unfolding on the Square thanks to February’s shock flash forward scene.

It saw six of Walford’s strongest female characters stood around a corpse in The Queen Victoria

The source added: “The cast are still waiting to find out whose body will be under the Christmas tree this year and are now wondering if the fire is going to be linked to the plot.”

An EastEnders spokesman declined to comment.

Kathy Beale has owned the cafe since son Ian sold her the business in 1991.

Gillian Taylforth was one of the soap’s original cast members in 1985.

The character was dramatically killed off screen in 2006, with her then-husband Gavin Sullivan’s sister calling Ian to tell him they’d died in a car crash.
