During the show Alfie almost died on the operating table as doctors attempted to remove his brain tumour.

Fans of the BBC One soap have now accused bosses of forgetting this crucial detail about his past.

Taking to social media, one said: "So they're just not gonna reference Alfie's brain tumour at all?"

A second wrote: "So I guess Alfie's brain tumour will never be mentioned again. Recovery by retcon?"

"Don't worry Alfie about having cancer the writers can make it disappear like they made your brain tumour miraculously vanish," said a third.

While a fourth commented: "So Alfie is going to have another cancer storyline? are we all just going to forget he's already had a brain tumour that was supposed to be fatal, and was never spoken about again?"

Fans were left devastated for Alfie after he learned of his diagnosis, with many taking to Twitter to comment on the heartbreaking storyline.
