Legendary soap star FINALLY agrees to appear on Bake Off after horrifying incident with Mary Berry

AFTER quitting EastEnders in search of his perfect acting role, Danny Dyer has tackled a surprising variety of TV jobs.

He’s done everything from travelogues with daughter Dani to a new quiz show — and now I can reveal he’s appearing on the celebrity version of The Great British Bake Off.

It is no mean feat for Channel 4 to sign him up because he previously vowed never to take part in the cookery contest after an embarrassing incident involving a certain Bake Off icon.

A TV insider said: “Danny once said he could never go on the show because he got rather drunk at a bash and when he met former judge Mary Berry, he licked her ear.

“It’s something which he was later mortified by, though no doubt her fellow judge on the show, Paul Hollywood, thought it was hilarious.

“But Paul is likely to ensure Danny doesn’t get up to any similar mischief on the Celeb Bake Off — he doesn’t want to offer a Hollywood handshake only to have the actor reciprocate with an appreciative lick.”

The Stand Up To Cancer special, which sees C4 raise money and awareness of the disease through a variety of its programmes, is set to air next year with Paul and Prue Leith now judging.

Last year, Danny quit EastEnders, which saw him play Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, saying the BBC soap had dwindling viewing figures and had “lost its way”.

He added of his character: “I didn’t quite know who I was playing any more, it was an odd thing.”

But if he was confused about what he was doing before, his post-EastEnders career is equally baffling.

He made Absolutely Dyer: Danny And Dani Do Italy, which aired on E4 in April, hosted reality contest Scared Of The Dark for Channel 4 and fronted Netflix game show Cheat.

In fact, one of his few forays into acting was in drama Heat for Channel 5.

And that turned out more half-baked and hard to swallow than anything he’ll serve up for Paul and Prue.
