Is Bluey a boy or a girl?

Despite the colour blue often being associated with boys, Bluey is a girl.

Bluey's creators have referred to her as 'she' on social media and ads and Bandit, Bluey's father, is often found referring to his daughter as 'her'.

Bluey's character challenges gender stereotypes in various ways and her toy counterpart is a great way to encourage children to play with gender-neutral toys.

Bluey is the main character and a six-year-old blue Heeler dog.

Bluey is an energetic puppy with a huge imagination and curiosity surrounding the world.

Bluey and Bingo go on adventures together as part of their imaginative play.

They'll often be joined by their parents as they play together.

Bingo Heeler

Bingo is Bluey's younger sister, a red Heeler who also likes to play but is a bit quieter than Bluey.

While Bingo is more shy than her older sister, she enjoys being challenged, like when Bluey asks Bingo to play the role of doctor rather than patient.

When Bingo isn't playing she can be found in the yard talking to tiny bugs or lost in her own world.

Bandit Heeler

Bluey's colour matches that of her Dad, Bandit, who works as an archaeologist.

He often musters the energy to play games with the girls after interrupted sleep, work and household chores.

He also tries to live his own life with his wife, Chilli, while handling two boisterous children.

Chilli Heeler

Bluey's Mum, Chilli, is a red Heeler who works part time in airport security.

However, she struggles to juggle working and being a Mum and often has a wry comment about her children's antics.

Despite this, she throws herself into their games.

Muffin Heeler

Muffin Heeler is Bluey and Bingo's cousin.

Shen can be very loud and always speaks her mind.

Her parents are Trixie and Stripe and she is the sister of Socks.

Socks Heeler

Socks Heeler is Bluey and Bingo's cousin.

In season one, Socks resembles a regular puppy who barks, walks on all fours, bites toys and people.

By season two, she is walking and talking like the rest of her family, but still has a few dog-like traits.

Chloe

Chloe is a Dalmatian and Bluey's best friend.

Chloe is described as energetic, loves playing with Bluey and her friends at Calypso School.

She is seven years old and has a Mum, Dad and baby brother.

Lucky

Lucky is a golden Labrador who is described as adventurous by others.

Lucky is friends with most of the members at Calypso School, and his parents are Pat and Janelle and has a younger brother called Chucky.

He lives next door to the Heeler family.
