Richard Madeley fumes he’s ‘wasting airtime’ after furious row with Good Morning Britain guest
RICHARD Madeley was left fuming during a debate with Education Minister Robert Halfon on today’s Good Morning Britain.
The 67-year-old took the MP to task as he failed to answer direct questions about the government plans to force universities to limit the number of students they enrol in under-performing courses.
Richard and Susanna Reid quizzed him about which courses could have recruitment limits, BUT he refused to give any names.
Exasperated, Richard told him the policy was “the woolliest” he had ever heard of.
Robert responded: “It’s a very substantive policy because it focuses on… it could be any course.
“It focuses on individual courses that have poor employment outcomes, that is not woolly at all.
“It could be any particular course, and what we’re doing is making sure that students who leave university have good jobs, good skills at the end.”
Richard could be seen getting increasingly wound up by the situation.
The GMB host raged: “Do you think the universities offering Mickey Mouse degree courses that you don’t seem able to give examples of, so I’m not going to ask because I am just wasting air time – do you think they are doing it because they are being greedy?”
Those watching at home were full of praise for Richard for standing his ground.
One person wrote: “I just watched Richard Madeley demolish Robert Halfon over this govt’s myopic and utterly idiotic new policy that will cap the number of students doing degrees with low paid outcomes e.g. social care. Even Madeley can see through their nonsense.”
A second said: “For once I take my hat off to Richard Madeley for nailing this b**tard this morning.”
While a third added: “You are speaking for us Richard!! We have no idea what the minister is going on about..”
