And he’s become a known face on TV screens too following his chef success, including Saturday Kitchen.

While appearing on the show as a guest chef, Jason explained that he was at the other end of a horrific injury.

The star explained: “Gizzi Erskine was presenting, and she shook a pan for me.

“She then moved the handle out the way and left it over an open flame and then turned off the gas a couple of seconds later but the handle was already hot.”

Jason continued to tell The Sun: “I then went in all guns blazing and grabbed the handle, which pretty much stuck to my hand live on Saturday Kitchen Live.

“I did everything with my human power not to swear at the top of my voice and continue to do my little segment before I could go and plunge my hand into an ice bath.

“It really hurt during that time and I had blisters for days to come. But that stuff happens.”

However, he is not afraid of going up against the live cooking show as he launches a new programme, Dubai Dishes, on ITV.

Jason explained: "I'm just honoured and blessed that anybody wants to ask me to do anything these days.

"I'm no spring chicken anymore and they want me to present a show, fingers crossed, we want it to be a success.

"I'm passionate about Dubai and I'm passionate about British food and showcasing the best of British all over the world.

"So if I could contribute to that in some way, shape or form then for me it's a job well done."

It was just at the end of last year that the celebrity chef was left with yet more injuries, after defending his daughter from sex pests.

The host of the BBC's The Chefs' Brigade was left with two black eyes after a shocking bar brawl in the Philippines.

Trouble erupted just after midnight on Christmas Eve after Atherton dined at the F Cafe and Bar in Cebu City with his wife and daughter.

The girl, 17, was pestered by a group of men as she waited for the bathroom, according to state governor Gwen Garcia.

Atherton asked them to apologise - sparking an outburst of violence.

Shocking footage shows fists flying and someone on the floor being stamped on.

Governor Garcia criticised the bar in a Facebook post accompanied by a picture of her with the bruised chef.

She said: “This gracious, gifted man certainly did not deserve the shameful treatment he got, right here, in Cebu.”

Episode one of Dubai Dishes will air at 10:10am on Saturday 15th July on ITV1.
