CORONATION Street fans have been left on the edge of their seats after Sarah Barlow made a huge decision about her shock pregnancy.

The character - played by Tina O'Brien - is only just starting to get her marriage to Adam Barlow back on track, following her brief affair with drug dealer Damon Hay.

Tonight's episode opened with Sarah and Adam (Sam Robertson) all loved up, before Sarah headed over to the Rovers for a drink.

However, as soon as she took a sip of her white wine she felt sick and headed home, suddenly realising what could be causing it.

Sure enough, the pregnancy test she bought came up with a positive result, but Sarah has no idea whether the dad is Adam or Damon.

While some soap fans might have expected Sarah to keep the news a secret from Adam, she told him as soon as he got home from work.

Adam was rightly stunned, and asked: "Do you have any idea if this child is mine or Damon's?"

When she replied no, an exasperated Adam asked: "No balance of probabilities? If you had to bet on it? Take a guess, trust your instincts, I don't know!"

As they talked, an emotional Sarah said: "I think it's best if I have a termination."

As her husband looked at her and didn't say anything, she added: "I just wanted to be honest with you, I love you so much I would do anything to save our marriage."

Adam went out to get some space, and after a chat with Daniel, he returned and suggested they could do a non-invasive DNA test on the baby to establish who the father is.

Sarah agreed, but in a later scene, she wanted to clarify where they were with things.

She asked: "How are you going to feel if the baby is not yours? I need to know, do we have a future together?"

Adam told her they did otherwise he wouldn't be there now, but she said: "What happens when we find out the truth, what then? I want this baby to be yours with all my heart, but what if it's Damon's?

"I'm assuming you'd want me to have an abortion?"

Adam replied solemnly: "You said you would, is that OK?"

Sarah said it was fine and Adam replied: "So, we know where we are" before leaving the room and a conflicted-looking Sarah behind.

Coronation Street fans took to Twitter to discuss the latest twist in the couple's relationship.

One wrote: "Not ANOTHER abortion storyline?"

Another added: "Not sure if #corrie trying to make us feel sorry for Sarah or not but she brought it all on herself."
