Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "Why does Matt have a picture of a six legged cow?"

Viewers are probably distracted by the change of face on their televisions as BBC legend Carol Kirkwood was nowhere to be seen.

The long-time resident weather presenter has been missing a number of mornings lately with no explanation given.

The 63-year-old star is usually up bright and early in order to bring the weather reports to the nation on the BBC Breakfast.

However, a switch-up saw Carol replaced by one of the channel's other weather experts.

Earlier this week BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent took a swipe at Carol telling her to 'go and take a nap' after her joke fell flat.

Sally, 51, was back on the BBC Breakfast sofa alongside Jon Kay, while Carol, was also in the studio rather than via video link for once.

Sally and Jon, 53, were discussing a new study from University College London which suggested napping could be beneficial for brain health.

Jon revealed Sally had recommended he have a nap when he first landed his full-time BBC Breakfast role last year.

He said: "I tried to resist it" but Sally responded: "Gotta nap. It does work, doesn't it?"

However, Jon then revealed to viewers that Carol "resists" napping, prompting Sally to brand the weather lady a "rebel".

Carol explained: "I don't nap, it makes me feel sick, but now I'm thinking 'maybe that's what's gone wrong'! If it makes you look younger."

Sally and Carol laughed and the journalist said: "Your brain is very healthy," and Carol replied: "Oh bless you, I don't care what anyone else thinks."

Carol then launched into her weather report, before telling Jon and Sally she had made a joke.

Sally replied: ";Oh were you?", while a baffled Jon said:" What, about the weather?"

Sally then swiped: "I think you need to go and have a nap! Carol, maybe go and have a little nap and see how you feel after."

But she quickly added: "It's great having you here" and told Jon: "Isn't it great, having Carol here?" to which Jon agreed.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
