The Witcher
FANTASY Available from Thursday
When it was announced last year that Henry Cavill would be waving goodbye to The Witcher after this third season, there was uproar among fans. How would they cope without getting their usual fix of the hunky Brit as wild-haired, sword-wielding, monster-slaying Geralt? It remains to be seen whether Liam Hemsworth - who’ll be taking over playing the character from season four - will manage to fill the gap, but until then, there are eight new episodes with Henry to enjoy. And they promise to be just as action-packed, gory and over-the-top as ever, with Geralt and Yennefer trying to protect Ciri from the constant danger that lurks around every corner on the Continent. As is often the way these days, the season is being released in two batches. The first, landing this week, gives us five episodes of magical, monster-bashing fun; the second, which comprises three episodes, will be released on 27 July. Get it while it’s hot.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical
FILM Available from Sunday
We’ve had to wait a long time for this smash-hit musical movie to arrive on Netflix, and if you haven’t not managed to watch it elsewhere yet, you’re in for a magical treat. Packed with seriously memorable songs – which were written by Australian comedian Tim Minchin and performed beautifully by the young cast - it’s a funny, fantastical and moving adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic. Oh, and we haven’t even mentioned the magnificent performance by Irish star-in-the-making Alisha Weir as Matilda, or the brilliantly terrifying but terrific turns from Emma Thompson as the fearsome Miss Trunchbull, and Stephen Graham as Matilda’s awful dad, Mr Wormwood. Worth the wait.

Run Rabbit Run
FILM Available from Wednesday
If you thought Sarah Snook had it tough dealing with terrifying Logan Roy as Shiv in Succession, that’s nothing in comparison to what her character has to contend with in this chilling horror. Slightly confusingly, she plays a fertility doctor and single mum also called Sarah, whose life with her eight-year-old daughter begins to unravel when the child starts acting very strangely. Is it all linked to the strange disappearance of Sarah’s sister at the age of eight? Or is Sarah losing her mind? And what’s with all the rabbits? A tense but enjoyable watch that proves Sarah - who’s reverted to her native accent in this Australian production - has many more strings to her bow than Succession alone.
Nimona
KIDS’ ANIMATION Available from Friday
Riz Ahmed and Chloë Grace Moretz lend their voices to this adventure, which is set in a futuristic medieval world and introduces us to Ballister Boldheart (Riz), a knight who’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. As luck would have it, there is one person who can help him prove his innocence and that’s Nimona (Chloe), a mischief-loving teen who seems to attract danger and mayhem wherever she goes. There’s just one problem: Nimona also happens to be a shapeshifting creature that Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with everyone out to get him, does Ballister have a choice? An epic tale of friendship and acceptance.

Is It Cake, Too?
REALITY Available from Friday
If you didn’t watch the first season of Is It Cake?, what in the ganache-filled, frosting-coated world stopped you? For the uninitiated, this eye-popping, jaw-dropping competitive reality show takes a bunch of super-talented bakers and challenges them to create a series of hyper-realistic cakes that look just like everyday objects, everything from handbags to shoes. The aim is to make their creation so realistic that the panel of top chefs and celebrities can’t tell if it’s cake or the real deal. And with a prize pot of $120,000 up for grabs, it pays to be precise. The new season welcomes 10 more bakers - including British-born Elizabeth Rowe - who’ll be tasked with recreating, amongst other objects, baseball gloves, a toilet and the Mona Lisa! As ever, one backer will leave the competition after every episode and zany cake-cutting host Mikey Day oversees the miraculous madness.

Featuring interviews with Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Denise Lewis, Clare Balding, Kelly Smith, Laura Woods and many more, it’s fascinating and important.

Hijack
THRILLER Available from Wednesday
When an armed group of terrorists take control of a flight from Dubai to London, the passengers are understandably terrified. But fortunately, there’s one person on board who might be able to save the day: Sam, played by Idris Elba. “So he must be some kind of highly trained, undercover secret agent?” you’re probably thinking. No! Better than that, Sam’s a highly trained, top-level corporate negotiator, who decides to find out if his skills are transferable to an international terrorist incident tens of thousands of feet up in the air. Yes, Hijack’s kind of daft, but the set up works a treat and as events unfold – in real time, over seven episodes – it’s so tense you can feel the fear and paranoia of the passengers. As ever, Idris is great, backed up by a strong supporting cast, which includes Eve Myles and Max Beesley. But be warned: anyone already nervous about flying might find it a turbulent ride.

Usually we have to wait ages for a much-loved show to deliver a highly anticipated new season, but that’s not the case with this fourth and – sob! - final series of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, which arrives a speedy six months after season three concluded. Now the CIA’s Acting Deputy Director, Jack (John Krasinski) faces his most dangerous mission yet as he’s given the job of sniffing out internal corruption, and sure enough, he soon uncovers a series of black ops that threaten national security. But worse is to come, when a dangerous terrorist organisation and a drug cartel are thrown into the mix. The six-part series explodes into life this week with a double bill, with two episodes landing weekly after that.

Home Economics
COMEDY Available from Thursday
Forget the Roy family in Succession, if you want to meet some really dysfunctional, eternally squabbling siblings, look no further than Home Economics’ Tom (Topher Grace), Sarah (Caitlin McGee) and Connor (Jimmy Tatro). The bickering trio – each leading quite different lives and with varying levels of financial success - return this week for a third series of relatable, raucous family comedy. All 13 episodes will be available to binge, but the season kicks off with a very eventful family trip to Disneyland and a revelation that Tom’s new boss is none other than little brother Connor. Twelve Monkeys
SCI-FI Available from Thursday
Terry Gilliam’s classic 90s movie of the same name provides the basis for this acclaimed time-travel thriller, which originally ran between 2015 and 2018. ITVX has snapped up all four seasons, giving us the chance to binge the dark, dystopian, multi-timeline adventures of James Cole (Aaron Stanford), a scavenger from the year 2043 who’s sent back to 2015 in order to stop the release of a deadly virus by a sinister group known as the Army of the 12 Monkeys, a virus that resulted in the deaths of seven billion people. Assisted by the virologist Cassie Railly (Amanda Schull), Cole attempts to track down the Army’s shadowy leader, while also staying one step ahead of his enemies in 2043. Thrilling.
