What happened to Ashley Peacock on Coronation Street?

CORONATION Street fans were left devastated when Ashley Peacock left the cobbles for good in very tragic circumstances.

Over the years the legendary character was involved in some high profile storylines before being killed off.

Who was Ashley Peacock on Coronation Street?

Ashley Peacock arrived on Coronation Street in 1996, and worked at his family's butcher shop.

He always thought that his dad was someone else, but it turned out his real father was his Uncle Fred.

During his time in Weatherfield he was married twice - once to Maxine, and later Claire.

Maxine sadly died when she was murdered by serial killer Richard Hillman.

What happened to Ashley Peacock?

Viewers were left in bits when Ashley died after an explosion at The Joinery Bar, which caused a tram to derail.

He was crushed by the collapsed ceiling after heroically helping to save Peter Barlow's life.

Ashley's death tied in with the show's 50th anniversary episode in 2010.

Who was Ashley Peacock played by?

Ashley Peacock was played by Steven Arnold and he has remained somewhat prolific since leaving the soap in 2010.

The actor has gone on to have a successful career on stage and even starred on Dancing On Ice in 2011.

He also appeared in Casualty as well as Thick As Thieves and On The Market.

But he has had most of his work in short films - appearing in countless over the years.

Steven has gone on to have a successful career on stage but still has moments where he misses his alter ego, Ashley.

Speaking to Gaby Roslin on Lorraine in 2016, he said: "I do, he’ll always have a special place in my heart as I played him for such a long time.

"There’s elements that you miss but you can still put him in characters that you play here and there."

Steven also said he was thrilled with how his career has turned out, especially as it could have gone completely differently if he hadn't been kept on at Coronation Street.

He said: "I originally went in for one episode then John Savident who played Fred [Elliott] said 'I could use you for another episode', he suggested me to do another episode so I said yeah."
