I won BGT and this is what really happens backstage at the live shows – producers pull all the strings
Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts has revealed that the producers pull all the strings during the live shows.
The legend, who won the show back in 2007, hit out at bosses for picking the wrong song for Gamal John, who has now lost out on a place in the final.
Speaking via , he told us: “If Gamal John was given the right song, he’s a finalist all day long. I don’t understand why he was given September as his song – it wouldn’t have just been his decision, it never is.”
Paul went on to reveal exactly how it works backstage, saying: “Acts have discussions with the producers, and they will guide you [picking a song and the type of performance] because often you aren’t armed to make that decision.
“The producers have got to build the shape of the show – it’s an entertainment show as well as a competition. You might not always get your way, and on this occasion, it wasn’t the right song for Gamal.”
And while Amy Lou is singing in the next round, Paul thinks she still needs some work.

He said: “Amy Lou has got a good voice, but she needs to show something unique. The arrangement did her any favours because there was no musical build-up.
“It’s a tough song, and if they want to encourage her as an artist, they need to help her show light and shade – I don’t think they gave her long enough in the song to show a different side to her voice.”
Musa Motha also landed a place in the next round following his inspiring dance, which saw him crowned the show’s winner.
