Tom King (portrayed by James Chase) made his way back to the eponymous ITV village and immediately embarked on a romance with former girlfriend Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper).

However, he failed to show the same enthusiasm when it came to reconnecting with his family, particularly his uncle Jimmy King (Nick Miles).

Belle eventually took it upon herself to convince Tom to give Jimmy a chance and things appeared to be going well - until Jimmy made a comment about the lad's father Carl.

Next week, Jimmy makes matters worse when he accidentally reveals to his nephew that Carl killed his grandfather Tom, whom he was named after.

More Emmerdale

A devastated Tom is unable to comprehend or even deal with the information and he leaves in a hurry once again.

He struggles to process the news but Belle is by his side, comforting him, and she chooses to give him a glimpse of her own dark past.

Tom left Emmerdale and Belle behind in 2013, meaning a lifetime of events have flown by during his absence.

Daunted, Belle is determined to be open about the many hurdles she's had to jump through as they chat at the Dingles'.

But it's a lot for Tom to take in when Belle confesses how she accidentally killed her former friend Gemma Andrews and he makes a run for it.

Belle worries that she may have ruined everything between them, but there's more turmoil ahead.

In The Woolpack, Tom is on edge after Belle's confession when Jimmy approaches him to defend Carl once more but he can't bear it.

The pair of men square up and their argument continues to escalate.

Unfortunately, the Kings are also set for a major fright next week.

Following his argument with Tom, Jimmy finds support in the form of his wife Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) who is convinced he needs to cut ties with his nephew altogether.

Nicola reminds Jimmy that his anguish over Tom is affecting the rest of their family and she reminds him of his priorities.

But it seems her words aren't heard as she soon spots her thirteen-year-old daughter Angelica aka Angel (Rebecca Bakes) outside Victoria Cottage following Jimmy's failure to take her to her dentist appointment.

Nicola hits the roof and, stressed to the heavens, takes it upon herself to take her daughter to the dentist.

She orders the young girl to get into the car and drives while ranting to her - but things go from bad to deadly when Nicola crashes into Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) at an unsighted junction on the outskirts of the village.

Their initial shock turns to horror when Moira and Nicola reel at the sight of an unconscious Angel in the back of the latter's crushed car.

Will she recover?
