Martin Roberts in tears over fat-shamers as he strips off on The Big Celebrity Detox

HOMES Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts broke down in tears as he recalled fat-shaming bullies while stripping for The Big Celebrity Detox.

During last night's episode of the Channel 4 show the TV presenter bared all as he opened up about some of the stuff that was said to him.

Martin, 59, arrived in a green silk robe and was asked what he saw in the mirror.

";I was really really fat as a child, I was hugely bullied at school as a result. It has always lived with me," Martin said.

He was later asked to re-robe and struggled to look back at his reflection.

Fighting back the tears Martin said: "I don't know if I can do this."

He then bravely took off the robe and said proudly: "F*** them! You look great mate.

"It didn't work wherever you are! Tough s***!"

Reflecting on what he did, Martin said to camera: "As steps go, it was a pretty big one."

Martin has had a tough year after he was hours from death in 2022 when his heart, kidneys and liver began to give up.

He was rushed to hospital with "hours to live" in April last year after experiencing chest pains.

The TV star needed life-saving emergency treatment after being told there was "a massive amount of fluid" surrounding his heart.

A week later he was discharged from hospital after the surgery.

He returned to work weeks later.

In an exclusive chat with The Sun Martin explained that he's struggled to come to terms with what happened.

"The physical side of almost dying is a really hard thing to deal with but the mental side it much more difficult," he told us.

"It makes you realise we're finite. You can't take anything for granted because it was a normal Tuesday and I was a reasonably healthy person.

"You realise it can all stop as quick as that... the wife, kids, career, business - bang, gone, boom - in an instant.

"I haven't come to terms with that. I still struggle with it.

"It changes your perception on everything. You try not to sweat the small stuff because you know it's insignificant, but it's tough.

"I've tried to take that in a positive way and know I have been given another opportunity.

"We are literally just here once and we need to make a difference while we're here."
