But there was one contestant on MasterChef that had viewers talking about them after they spent the past few weeks in the competition cooking sugar-free dishes.

John, a painter and decorator has been a strong contender in the competition so far - but last night that changed when he got booted off.

The aspiring chef has consistently said his daughter has type 1 diabetes and therefore he keeps sugar away from her.

But viewers have previously bashed him online for "spreading misinformation" about type 1 diabetes - after he said you can't have any sugar.

But the NHS states that you can have sugar as long as you are aware of your limits and it's in moderation.

After poor John got sent home last night viewers were left over the moon as they celebrated.

Taking to Twitter one wrote: "So, John is out. At least they can't continue to spread the misinformation that people with type 1 diabetes can't have sugar."

Another echoed: "So glad John is out!! We don't have to deal with him spreading misinformation about type diabetes anymore."

A third wrote: "John got sent home? Oh thank god."

A fourth added: "The guy who said his daughter can't have sugar because she has type 1 diabetes even though it's wrong, is finally gone!!!"

A fifth wrote: "Glad he's been sent home. The bloke was spreading lies basically."

Viewers have been fuming for weeks that John has been giving "misleading" information about type 1 diabetes.

The NHS states that you don't have to cut out sugar when you have type 1 diabetes. In fact, you should always keep something with a high sugar content on you in case you need to raise your blood glucose levels."

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "Having lived with a type 1 diabetic for 13 plus years, they can have sugar it just needs to be managed appropriately."

Another penned: "Why is John acting like a single grain of sugar will kill his type 1 diabetic daughter?"
