BAFTA TV Awards 2023 LIVE — All of last night’s winners REVEALED as Catherine Tate and Lenny Rush leave fans in stitches

THE BAFTA TV Awards returned to our screens last night as stars of the small screen gathered at London's Royal Festival Hall for the most prestigious awards in British television.

The annual ceremony honoured television's finest and was hosted by Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan.

Throughout the show, fans were left in stitches as comedians Catherine Tate and Lenny Rush took to the stage.

Young Lenny wowed fans with his award win, as he took home the prize for best male performance in a comedy.

Other winners included the hit comedy series Derry Girls, Claudia Winkleman and Kate Winslet.

  • Ben wins Best Actor

    Ben Whishaw wins it for his stunning performance in This Is Going To Hurt.

    He beat out some of the world’s most famous stars, including Cillian Murphy and Gary Oldman.

    What an achievement!

  • Fans left fuming as Imelda Staunton snubbed

    In a major surprise for ­viewers Imelda Staunton, who plays The Crown’s Queen, was snubbed as lead actress.

    One fan said: "The only one to win the bafta was Vanessa Kirby because queens and princesses: Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville never won and that's too offensive."

  • Royal wins at the BAFTAs

    The Queen’s skit with Paddington Bear was crowned the most ­Memorable Moment at the BAFTAs last night.

    Simon Farnaby played a footman in the heart-warming sketch which came during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

    He said: “I can tell you that Paddington had a very joyful Jubilee tea that day.

    “But it was also perhaps a farewell because, of course, the person who most deserves this award is no longer with us to receive it.

    “We can only accept it on her behalf and say thank you, Ma’am, for everything.”

    Ben Whishaw, the voice of Paddington, said: “It was wonderful to be asked and most of all I thought the Queen did a great job of acting with nothing.

    “It was just a stick and a tennis ball on it. She did a brilliant job.”

    Party At The Palace was named best live event.

  • Who is Claudia Winkleman?

    Claudia Winkleman was born in London on January 15, 1972, and is the daughter of former Sunday Express editor Eve Pollard.

    Her father Barry was the former publisher of the Times Atlas Of The World.

    Claudia’s parents split when she was three and both remarried in 1979.

    Her mum Eve married former editor of the Daily Express Sir Nicholas Lloyd and her dad, Barry, wed children’s author Cindy Black.

    On her father’s side Claudia has a royal half sister Sophie Winkleman.

    She married into royalty and her daughter Maud Windsor was bridesmaid at Princess Eugenie’s wedding in 2018.

    Claudia’s first major TV gig was on regional discussion programme Central Weekend in 1991, but her big break came when she took over from Bruce Forsyth on Strictly in 2014.

  • Meera Syal won Sunday's highest honour

    Meera Syal was honoured with the Fellowship Award at last night's show, the evening's highest honour.

    Stars hailed the iconic actress, who pioneered South Asian roles on UK television.

  • Is Romesh married and does he have children?

    Romesh is married to wife Leesa, and is a father to three sons – Alex, Theo and Charlie.

    He and his wife first met when they were both working at Hazelwick School, where she was a drama teacher.

    His mum Shanthi Ranganathan appears with him in many of his shows including Just Another Immigrant.

  • Who is Romesh Ranganathan?

    Romesh is a comedian from Crawley, West Sussex.

    He originally worked as a maths teacher before pursuing a career as a performer.

    Despite eventually finding status as a comedian, he was relatively successful as a freestyle rapper, and once succeeded in reaching the finals of a freestyle competition.

    The star is a vegan and baked some vegan chocolate brownies for his fellow panellists during an appearance on Bake Off: Extra Slice.

    He is also an avid supporter of Arsenal football club.

    Kate Winslet was overjoyed as she was crowned best supporting actress.

    Fighting back tears, the iconic actress thanked her family and all the creative minds behind I Am Ruth.

  • Who is Rob Beckett?

    Essex boy Rob, who’s been dubbed the “Mouth of the South”, was born on January 2, 1986.

    The 37 year old, who lives in Mottingham, London and has four brothers.

    Rob started doing stand-up comedy back in 2009 and won four competitions in his first year.

    He made his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012, with his first solo show – Rob Beckett’s Summer Holiday.
