After returning to her role as Sam Mitchell following a 17-year break Kim Medcalf departed in April.

But BBC bosses have said it's not the end of the character and she will be back in the next few months.

They've teased she will spend "most of the summer" in Spain, meaning she'll likely return in September or October.

Sam left to take up a job in a hotel in order to support her son Ricky who is soon to become a teenage dad.

Kim's character was mentioned during Monday's visit to EastEnders after Denise Fox revealed she received a call from Sam.

Speaking to her sister Kim, Denise said how "she's staying in Spain" as the hotel "desperately" needed her.

Sam Mitchell's character was originally portrayed by Danniella Westbrook.
