The legend of Walford re-appeared as a figure of daughter Amy's imagination after she was left struggling with her mental health.

Roxy aimed to comfort her daughter after she was left reeling that she was not good enough.

In the scenes, set during a family therapy session, Amy was asked what she would say to her mum if she was around - to which she responded: "Did you ever really love me?"

As Amy continued how she imagined her mum would say she 'loved her', Roxy appeared next to her as she said: "Yes, my baby, yeah. With all of my heart."

Roxy then told Amy she was "right here" as she gently pushed against her necklace that fell above her heart.

Amy struggled to convey her emotions and asked her mum if she was enough as Roxy told her: "You are, you were the one thing that I had, the one good thing.

"I was fighting for you!"

The emotional scenes left viewers in tears as they watched along.

But now they have all been left with one question - they have begged BBC bosses to bring her back permanently.

Many fans insisted it did not matter how wild a theory it was, they would accept it, along with the reintroduction of her beloved sister Ronnie (Samantha Womack).

Writing on Twitter, one fan said: "I don't give a s***e if it would be the most ridiculous storyline ever and I don't care how they do it, EastEnders need to bring Ronnie and Roxy back."

Another added: "I think they're testing the waters here but I promise, nobody cares how ridiculous the storyline has to be, feed us whatever bulls*** you want, we'll overlook it and lap it up! Just bring back Ronnie & Roxy."

A third commented: "Everyone seemed perfectly happy to accept Jesus coming back from the dead so surely we can do the same for Ronnie & Roxy?!"

As a fourth insisted that the move proved that the Beeb regretted their initial decision as they claimed: "I just know EastEnders regret killing off Ronnie and Roxy."

It would not be the first time that EastEnders has brought back a character from the dead after Kathy Beale made a return years after her alleged passing.

Kathy died off-screen, while Ronnie and Roxy's death appeared to be shown on-screen but Rita admitted to The Sun she refused to film certain death scenes and claimed that she only pretended to hold her breath in the New Year's Day 'drowning' episode.

Rita explains: “I got pulled aside a couple of days before filming the final scene by an exec, who I cannot name for legal reasons, who said to me, ‘There are a lot of people upstairs who don’t agree with this’.

“So what I was hearing was that people above did not agree.

“Why they couldn’t help, I don’t know. The politics there was so fraught at the time.

“And you have to let a producer do what they do and you have to let them find their way.

“They said, ‘If you want any chance at ever bringing Roxy back, you have to refuse to die’.

“So I have sat on this for six years and said nothing.

“It has made me feel like vomiting because I feel so guilty about it.

“Now is the time to say I played that scene as if I was holding my breath.

“Go back and watch it online and you will see next to nothing of me at all.

“I also refused to do the coffin scene. I was asked directly to my face and I refused point blank.

“It was really difficult because I was never a difficult actress or a diva but I had to do this thing to have any chance to protect me because I cared about Roxy.

“I didn’t let anyone film me jump in the pool, so no one saw me drown.

“I didn’t do anything but hold my breath and stay absolutely still. That is all I did, which you can see.

“They must have thought I was insane, like, why was I doing it? But in my head I was filming a very different scene to the one the public think they saw or what they think they filmed.

“It made me feel sick that I couldn’t even tell Sam. I couldn’t tell anybody.”
