A JAY TO REMEMBER

EastEnders fans point out huge problem with Lola Pearce’s plan to have daughter Lexi adopted by a convicted sex offender

EASTENDERS fans have pointed out a major plot hole in Lexi Mitchell's adoption storyline as step-dad Jay Brown is on the sex offenders register.

With only a handful of months to live, Lola will make it clear to her husband Jay (Jamie Borthwick) that she has chosen who Lexi's legal guardian will be - and she will tell him that she would like the mechanic to adopt her.

However fans have questioned whether that is possible as Jay is a convicted sex offender.

In 2016, Jay was convicted after he discovered his girlfriend Linzi Bragg (Amy-Leigh Hickman) was underage and still in school.

Jay first bumped into Linzi outside The Queen Victoria pub when they exchanged numbers.

They shared a kiss, spent a night together in a hotel and Linzi sent Jay sexually explicit video and photos.

When Jay collected Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper) from school after she was in a fight, he was stunned to find out that Louise was fighting with Linzi meaning she was also a schoolgirl.

Louise told Jay that Linzi's real name was Star and she was 14.

Jay then told her to leave him alone and was interviewed by the police about the photos and video that Star sent him after they were found on his phone - even though he had deleted them when he discovered her age.

He pleaded guilty, knowing that he has no defence against the photos being there and because he did not want to put Star through the ordeal of giving evidence in court.

Due to mitigating factors, Jay was given a non-custodial sentence of 150 hours of unpaid work and had to sign the Sex Offender Register.

Fans took to a fan forum to discuss whether Jay could adopt Lexi.

One highlighted: "Jay used to be on the register though as he pleaded guilty."

But one fan claimed: "Jay is a lot more stable and reliable than Ben is though. Also he's off the register now, he's been off for 2 years."

Meanwhile, Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has also been involved in supporting Lola throughout her health ordeal.

But with his best friend Jay asked to adopt his daughter Lexi, could Ben be pushed over the edge and let his inner demons take over?

Or will he accept Lola's decision and remain present for Lexi?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
