Fans of American sitcom Frasier were treated to a triple bill of the show this morning.

However, just after 9:30am as the third instalment started the gremlins seemed to make their way into C4's systems.

The picture froze for several minutes while the programmes audio continued to play out as normal.

The image left stuck on screen said 'out with dad' and remained like that until the broadcaster eventually cut away for an ad break.

One viewer said: "Channel 4 just froze for several minutes on this Frasier caption as the sound kept playing. Surreal."

It's not the first time that programmes have been freezing as viewers were recently left disappointed when an episode of Rise and Fall appeared to be stuck.

One watcher said at the time: "My channel 4 is frozen and soundless ummmm."

While a second commented: "Channel 4 what’s happening babe why’s it frozen."

The broadcaster suffered a complete blackout in February causing Countdown to fall off air.

The broadcaster placed a holding message on the screen telling the viewers: "Programmes continue shortly."

Furious fans rushed to share their angst at being unable to see the afternoon favourite as they questioned what had gone wrong.

Writing online, one disgruntled viewer complained: "Channel 4 just cut out for anyone else? Just went black during Countdown thought it was my TV."

Another said: "Just gone down for me too! I thought it was my internet!!"
