He's played by former EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami, who worked on Casualty's sister show Holby City before its axe last year.

Since then some of the show's most-loved characters have made brief appearances in Casualty.

And in the first-look clip we see Eli in the emergency department, hugging another person.

Show bosses haven't told us yet why Eli is in the ED or who it is he is seen embracing.

His cameo has grabbed the attention of viewers as one said: "OMG this looks incredible, can't wait to see this @BBCCasualty & was that @DavoodGhadami I spotted in the hospital!"

A second said: "Why is Eli form Holby here? Interesting..."

While a third commented: So happy to see Davood back in the hospital."

Meanwhile, next week on Casualty the new nurses battle to impress Max and a difficult patient is too familiar to Jan.

Upcoming Casualty scenes will see Jan get the shock of her life.

Jan is taken aback when she comes across a dishevelled and inebriated patient who turns out to be her ex-husband, Gethin.

Gethin is not pleased that the paramedics have been summoned and declines any assistance.

Despite this, Jan remains resolute and insists that he must be treated at the ED.
