Viewers have watched as Lola has been battling a brain tumour, with her family rallying around her for support.

However, she was recently given the devastating news that her cancer had progressed and was terminal.

And now, as the character's final scenes are nearing, Danielle has broken her silence.

Taking to Instagram, the 30-year-old told fans Lola's story "has been a very hard one to tell and one that means so much".

She continued: "Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet historically only 1% of research is allocated to this devastating disease.

"I would like to take a moment for everybody that has reached out to me and shared their experiences with me, I have read every message and hold all of your messages close to my heart whilst playing this story.

"I have been blessed to meet the most incredible people and work with some wonderful charities along the way and I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for all your support, advice and love."

Viewers will soon see Lola try to live the rest of her life to the fullest as she embarks on a final trip away with her husband Jay Brown.

Upcoming EastEnders scenes will see Lola and Jay enjoy a getaway to the beach.

Despite the sad circumstances, Lola and Jay are all smiles as they spend time together.

Not letting the cold weather dampen their mood, the loved-up pair are wrapped up warm in the padded coats and each other's arms.

Even though Lola feels weak, Jay has a wheelchair to help her travel across the beach.

It will be a wholesome yet emotional episode as it will be the couple's last opportunity to spend time together before she dies.

EastEnders airs on BBC One and iPlayer.
