Tempting Fortune sees 12 strangers toughing it out on an 18-day trek through South Africa with just basic essentials and kit.

But throughout their journey, they are offered 'temptations', including coffee and silent discos, in exchange for large lumps of the shared £300,000 prize fund.

Paddy can be seen hosting the pre-recorded show in South Africa, but his scenes on Monday night left viewers perplexed.

The Take Me Out and Top Gear star was filmed driving a 4X4 down dusty roads - without ever reaching a destination.

Taking to Twitter, one fan mused: "I think paddy is driving home for Christmas because he's getting fecking no where... his purpose is this show is what???"

Another agreed: "Where the f*** is Paddy driving to?"

A third remarked: "Did Paddy just drive around South Africa talking to a camera for the day?"

And a fourth suggested: "Maybe he did all those talking heads in like an hour on the first day and flew back home lol."

In the latest episode of Temping Fortune, tempers frayed as some of the contestants - who have been split into two groups - splashed out on 'temptations'.

Carolynne's Group B splashed £3,700 on one cup of coffee, a single pastry and a silent disco.

They then splashed a further £9,000 on three double beds in a luxurious glamping hotel.

James' Group A refused all three temptations and were left furious when they discovered what Group B had done.

Fans of the show were not entirely convinced, though, and branded the scenes "fake" and "staged".

Tempting Fortune continues at 9pm, Channel 4, Sunday April 9.
