A BBC News channel host has been flooded with support after she signed off from her last ever show amid a string of axes.

Martine Croxall has left fans devastated after she revealed she presented her final ever show.

The news anchor, 54, has been a staple of the BBC News channel and a regular face for viewers.

However, as the BBC faces cutbacks and the UK News and World News channels merge, she's hosted her final show for the channel.

Taking to social media after signing off for the last time, Martine said: "As you probably know a single news channel operation will be with you from Monday.

"This is me signing off from the BBC News channel in its current iteration from my happy place, studio E.

"It has been the greatest privilege to broadcast to you from here all this time.

"Than you for joining us."

Her announcement has left fans devastated, with one saying: "Will be much missed Martine, for your clear presentation & engagement with viewers. I hope you reappear on our screens soon."

A second wrote: "Well said! It’s been our privilege to see and hear you too. Absolute legend."

"You are an incredibly professional and very personable presenter and I will hugely miss you," said a third.

While a fourth said: "Nothing to say other than thank you to you too. It has been a pleasure watching you at work. You will definitely be missed."

Earlier today after her colleague failed to arrive in studio - leaving her presenting an extra hour of television.

Just days ago journalist Reeta Chakrabarti took to Twitter to share a snap of one of her colleagues during his final broadcast.

Posting a selfie from behind the cameras while Shaun Ley was on set, Reeta wrote: "It’s a week of last shifts as #BBCNews Channel winds down: @BBCShaunLey doing his final weekday programme - followed by me at 5pm on my last Channel broadcast.

"What a great network it’s been to work for. So long, farewell.."
