As usual, the two teams competed to find hidden treasures, Roo, 43, was the professional working with the red team who comprised of Jane, retired, and Craig, a communications officer.

While David Harper was supporting the blue team of Heather and Elaine.

They were all looking for gems and bargains at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh while Natasha Raskin Sharp hosted the show.

The red team were tasked with finding an item of 'Scottish Highland dress’ - a challenge that Craig said he was "uncomfortable" with.

Roo reassured them, stating that they had a lot of options, she said: “We can have everything from the kilt down to the kilt pin.”

They eventually settled on the purchase of a brooch priced at £20.

But their success was short lived, host Natasha said it did "not meet the requirements of the challenge".

Things went from bad to worse when expert auctioneer Mrs Thompson gave the feedback: "It could not be described even loosely as a kilt pin. With a kilt pin, the stone is always at the top and it runs downwards.

“And it has continental hallmarks, so it fails on the Scottish bit. But it is still a really nice bar brooch!”

The show’s host then followed this up with the news that the brooch would be disqualified.

Viewers took aim at Roo and blamed her for the outcome. One said on Twitter: "What was Roo thinking then?”In agreement one fan wrote: “Let down by their ‘expert’ there #bargainhunt."

Another added: “Roo is Scottish and doesn't know a kilt pin from a brooch.... Some expert she is #BargainHunt.”

One chimed in with: “Good start, if only they had an expert who knew what they were doing #BargainHunt."

Meanwhile others blamed the challenge, one fan Tweeted: "Another disqualified item!! Stop giving such stupid challenges #bargainhunt."

Bargain Hunt airs weekdays from 12.15pm on BBC One.
