Vera’s Riley Jones pays emotional tribute to ITV co-star after shock exit from show
VERA star Riley Jones has penned an emotional tribute to his co-star Kenny Doughty after the actor revealed he was leaving the show after eight years.
News that the 48-year-old was quitting the long-running detective programme starring Brenda Blethyn has left fans devastated and it seems his friends on Vera are no different.
After the news was shared on his Instagram page, co-star Riley, 34, wrote an emotional tribute to his pal noting his energy, enthusiasm and sense of fun “never wavered”.
The DC Mark Edwards actor wrote: “Where to even start. It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside you for all these years.
“After 35 films your energy, enthusiasm and sense of fun on set never wavered. You’re a true professional and have not only made me a better actor but a better person.
“Here’s to your next chapter. Can’t wait to see what you do next. Whatever it is, I'm sure it’ll be awesome!”

Clearly the best of pals, the former DS Healy immediately thanked Riley for his message, writing: “Here’s to new adventures buddy. And I’m so thankful for your friendship.”
Fans of the hit ITV drama were left devastated earlier this week when Kenny confirmed he was leaving his role as DCI Stanhope's sidekick.
He told fans: “After 8 years & 35 Vera films I’ve made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy’s badge. I can confirm I am leaving Vera.
“I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy & inspiration Brenda Blethyn.
“The perfect leading star who I owe so much to. I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter & have been a rock for me over the years.
“I can’t thank you enough. Precious times.
“And finally the Vera fans: without you and your support I would never have made so many films.
“You really are the best fans in the world. Thank you so much for your loyalty & love for the show. X”
Following his announcement fans immediately started to debate who could replace him, or if the show would come to an end.
Thankfully, Vera bosses have confirmed to a new feature-length episode - called The Rising Tide - will be released later this year.
The episode will feature Kenny alongside Brenda Blethyn, who plays Vera, and is based on the eleventh book by author Ann Cleeves.
More details around the episode will be released soon.
Vera is available on ITVX.
