New Disney+ show based on legendary film series ‘cancelled’ despite huge hype from fans
A BRAND new Disney+ spin-off series has reportedly been cancelled before it was ever officially announced.
The show was set to be based around the Indiana Jones film franchise but has allegedly been dumped from the streamer whilst in the early development stage despite fans being over the moon when it first became a likely possibility last year.
It appears the decision to pull the plug on a potential TV series comes after Disney+ bosses were unhappy with the lack of success Lucasfilm, the studio behind Indiana Jones, were having with a number of recent projects.
The production company was apparently told to shift its focus after a series of critical and commercial failures.
During a chat on YouTube series The Hot Mic, Hollywood insider and film critic Jeff Sneider confirmed that he had heard from a good source that the show was no longer in the works.
Jeff said: "I'm told that the Ravenwood Indiana Jones series at LucasFilm is dead, and I'm told that Disney's told Lucasfilm, 'You're only making Star Wars stuff from now on'."

He went onto add: "They cancelled Willow. They have Indiana Jones 5 coming out, but you tell me, does that feel like one of the biggest movies of the summer when people are talking about Oppenheimer and Barbie and Fast X. Does that feel like one of the biggest movies of the summer?"
The spin-off series was planned to focus on Abner Ravenwood - Indie’s mentor.
It is not the first time that the streaming service has pulled the plug on a slew of spin-offs.
When Solo: A Star Wars Story did not perform well for the platform, further planned spin-offs were axed as a result.
The next movie in the franchise is expected to be released later this year.
Disney confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 will be released on June 30, 2023.
It was originally scheduled for 2019 but it was pushed back to July 10, 2020, and then delayed again to 2021.
Filmmaker James Mangold will be taking over as director.
In December 2022, the film's official title, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, was revealed and its anticipated trailer was released.
