Despite the more serious subject matter, the singer kept the presenting pair in hysterics, as well as the audience at home.

"What I love about you is you put yourself out there, and then you largely just talk disparagingly about yourself," Dermot, 49, joked.

Promoting his new single, he added: "Don't waste your time, it's a complete and utter joke I've been allowed to do a second one.

"I didn't think it was possible, but I've got worse. Don't bother with it and go and buy Ed Sheeran's latest offering instead."

"Do you enjoy it though?" Dermot asked, to which Lewis continued to joke: "No, I hate this - I'm just paying my bills' honestly.

"It's fun, and better than having a real job. We are blessed and dressed and underdressed.

"I love doing it and I'm not very good at anything else, except from love making, so until I can make a career in that..."
