Dad-of-three, Jonnie, 49, who presents Escape to the Country and A Place in the Sun had been sharing pictures to Instagram of the clothes he was going to wear ahead of a family photoshoot.

He wrote: “Photo shoot tomorrow and new garms arrived bang on time. As ever, all about the layers, this time top to toe in @formandthread.”

To which a  cruel troll replied: “Shouldn’t you be spending your final days/weeks with your kids rather than doing all this paid publicity? Just saying.”

Jonnie was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2020 and in November he revealed it was terminal and the condition had spread to his brain.

The presenter and property expert replied to the troll and said: “It was a shoot with my family, but just to confirm, you are the worst human I can imagine meeting.”

Fortunately there was an outpouring of support on Instagram, one fan said: “What a terrible thing to say about Jonnie. He is working to provide for his family. How cruel to think this let alone actually print it.”

Another added: “How can people be so hurtful - ignore the wrong ones Jonnie, she will get her ‘comeuppance’ - live your best life as you always do - and the clothes are great !”

One said: “What a mean comment. I would imagine Jonnie is attempting to carry on life as as normal as possible, provide for his family and from his previous posts spends loads of time with his family.”

Jonnie has been undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a process that involves inhaling pure oxygen in a pressurised environment, since last month.

Last week he shot down rumours he was making a return to present A Place in the Sun

Instead, he confirmed that he was reuniting with Jasmine Harman for A Place in the Sun Live, an event which is a separate company to the Channel 4 show.
