Coronation Street signs up West End legend for explosive new role
SOAP bosses announced a brand new character will be rocking up on the cobbles.
West End star Ruthie Henshall has bagged a guest role in Coronation Street and here's what you need to know.
The new arrival will be a shock to established Weatherfield resident and Rovers barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth, portrayed by Jodie Prenger.
Ruthie's stint in the Manchester-based drama will begin on April 3, when she will first be introduced to ITV viewers as Estelle.
It's all set to kick off when Estelle has a run in with George Shuttleworth (played by Tony Maudsley) about the cost of her mother's funeral.
But when she bumps into her old friend Glenda, the row is immediately put aside and the pair will be reminiscing over their time on cruise ships together.

Later on, Estelle will try to get Glenda to buy into her theatre school franchise Little Big Shotz.

Glenda made her own arrival in the cobbles in 2022, rekindling with her brother George after spending some time singing on cruise ships.
Viewers were very glad to be introduced to Glenda but she has been standing on the side-lines since first settling down in Weatherfield.

Ruthie's multi-award winning career has led her to star in some of the most popular musicals in the likes of Cats, A Chorus Line, Les Misérables, Billy Elliot, Marguerite, Miss Saigon, Chicago and Crazy For You.
This also won't be her first time on the box as she already has several TV credits to her name.
These include Valery in The Case for the BBC, Law & Order and Curb Your Enthusiasm, among others.
She even appeared as a judge on Dancing on Ice.
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
