The owner's watch was a genuine vintage Rolex Submariner 5512 purchased in 1961 in Aiden, Yemen.

A real guild dial was mounted on the expensive timepiece's black clock face, which was topped with a guild print that still glistened in the sunshine.

Antiques expert Mathew Haley made a cheeky remark that he would be willing to take the watch off him.

He said: "If I gave you £50 now, that'll be a profit."

The seasoned army veteran spent 640 shillings, or almost £32 in today's money, on the purchase.

Speaking about the history of the vintage watch, the guest shared: "I was in the Royal Navy, I was on HMS Anzio and we were on passage from Malta to Bahrain and I saved up enough money to buy a Rolex and I bought this one."

After hearing the tale, the expert was motivated to check the valuable watch in further depth and show its luxurious features to the audience.

The guest admitted that the accessory had spent years hidden away in the back of a cabinet rather than being appraised.
