FANS of the hit drama series Endeavour have been left gutted at 'the end of an era' as the show draws to a close next week.
The ITV drama series will broadcast its final instalment next Sunday with many fans left upset at the series' end.
A teaser for the final ever episode promises high-stakes drama as it reads: "A series of death notices in the Oxford Mail, each with a cryptic message, provides clues to Endeavour's final investigation, while Thursday's past catches up with him."
But ahead of its last broadcast, fans have taken to Twitter to share their heartache as the wildly popular drama comes to a close after 11 years.
One fan penned: "It took me a long time to watch the last Morse after it was broadcast. I’m not ready for #Endeavour to end. And this series is particularly spectacular."
Another added: "Yesss! Little Pete! Oh I was so hoping he’d be making a return for this! Why does this series have to end. Morse is still young, keep going!"

A third shared: "#Endeavour And now we head towards the final @EndeavourTV Episode "Exeunt" and the end of an era.... #TheEndOfTheBeginning"
As a fourth said: "Not ready for #Endeavour to end next week. Great to see Jakes back though."
It was confirmed last year that the show had been axed by ITV despite a hugely succefsuly run.
The programme has become a huge fan favourite over the past decade, with 33 successful episodes over eight seasons created before the shock decision was made.

Executive Producer of the show Damien Timmer confirmed the show's future plans in a statement.
He said: "Endeavour has been a real labour of love for all of us, and we salute Russell Lewis for his extraordinary achievement in chronicling Endeavour Morse’s coming of age across 72 hours of TV.
"Russell always knew where he wanted the series to end, and that Remorseful Day is nearly upon us!
"We’d like to thank Shaun and Roger and all the other members of the Endeavour family on and off screen, and to the show’s fans both in the U.K. and abroad.
"Russell has many surprises up his sleeve for the final three films, with the return of some familiar faces and new challenges for Endeavour and Thursday to face before the final goodbye!"
Endeavour is the prequel to ITV series Inspector Morse.
It is set in the 1960s/70s and follows the life of younger Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse.
The series first aired in January 2012.
